CNBC - Treasuries at Historic Lows (FEAR INFLATION!!)

Money

I was watching CNBC yesterday afternoon. I find it a nice tedious drone to be a background to my workday when I work from home. I heard something that shows why CNBC is ridiculously slanted towards an agenda. After reporting that the 10 year Treasury yield was again at historic lows around 3%, they opined that this was a sure sign that we should all be ready for a rise in the rate, which would signal the inevitable phantom inflation that everyone on this network seems to be afraid of.

For anyone that does not know, 10 year treasuries are a primary sign of the confidence in the moderate term future of the US economy. When yields go down, it means that people don't have faith in the stock market or corporate bonds, and are looking for a safe haven for money. They find this safe haven in the US Government.

People do not put money into Treasuries when inflation is high, because inflation would obliterate their return. They are better off investing in stocks, or gold, or oil, or real estate.

People invest in Treasuries when they believe that inflation is not a prospect. Thus the yields go lower.

What CNBC was trying to say was that, Inflation is so far out of the realm of possibility right now that it eventually HAS to come back, so you'd better be afraid of INFLATION, because there are absolutely NO SIGNS of it on the HORIZON. SO IT IS IMMINENT!!!

They are complete idiots or they think we are a bunch of fools.

Apple OSs

General News

Apple Computers still to this day has no idea how to create an operating system. The only reason MacOS X runs as well as it does is that it takes its core guts from FreeBSD. And I mean TAKES. Apple has given very little back to the free software project that it built Darwin from. That is fine. It is a non-copyleft license. No laws broken. Only poor citizenship by our great innovator.

But Exhibit 1 in Apple's pathetic OS design is the iPhone OS. It makes all the mistakes that the original MacOSs did. All the ones not based on Unix. First, they built it without multitasking. A horrific sin for OS design of any type in this day and age. But worse than that, when they update it to support "multitasking" (iOS 4), it turns out to be a lame approximation of multitasking.

Business Insider has an article describing how limited Apple's fake multitasking really is.

Android, on the other hand has great multitasking, and I have been reading developer documentation for Android recently. It has a well thought out design for all of its applications to use and define how it uses the mulititasking inherent in the OS. I have not read the Apple developer docs, but if they don't have this thought out by now, I can imagine that a lot of applications are being written with bad assumptions for multitasking support. And the future looks bleak in this respect to me for true mutlitasking on the iPhone. Just like multitasking sucked on the original MacOS, until they rebuilt it with a Unix/FreeBSD core.

28 Up, 28 Down

General News

Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers throws the first 28 out complete perfect game. Sure, Harvey Haddix went 12 innings of perfection, before an error in the 13th inning that ultimately led to a run and a loss, but Galarraga, won the game. If you could call errors on umpires, this would be a case in point.

Galarraga Perfection Thwarted by Umpire Error

So, since the Tigers and Galarraga were perfect through 9 innings, and even got one extra out, I say we stop calling this the Perfect Game that wasn't, and call it the Perfect Game Plus!

Manufacturing Healthcare Consent

General News

I just had a thought. You know how we have been hearing for months on all the network news and cable news and political talk shows that the Democrats had to pass something, anything called "Health Care Reform?"  Could it be that we are all being played and that the Dems don't have to do any thing of the sort. The media defined the terms of success or failure based on what they heard at *censored*tail parties. They passed it on to us. We swallowed it in order to make us swallow whatever shit sandwich they fed us. Could this be the case? Just asking. Maybe the Democrats don't have to pass something called health care reform right now. Especially if it isn't health care reform.

I am still undecided on what to do with this bill as the Senate has defined it, but it is getting pretty hard to understand how the American public will take kindly to what is proposed right now. I don't think that the Democrats are necessarily shooting their foot off, but they might be. Or even worse, they might be shooting themselves in the testicles.

Barack Obama Defined

General News

What do all the following show about Barack Obama as President?

  • The healthcare bills in front of Congress
  • The huge bailout of the banking industry, including blindly backing Goldman Sach's bets with AIG at 100%
  • The continuation of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars
  • Guantanomo not closing by the deadline he imposed
  • No change in stance on Gays in the Military
  • No support for Gay Marriage

It shows that he is a moderate incrementalist. He is not progressive. He has no intention of being progressive, or even doing anything that progressives want. He is not radical change. He is not a transformative figure. He is barely change at all.

He is a DLC Democrat with populist speeches and no action. He is Evan Bayh and Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu. He is a one term president.

He is not George Bush, but only in style. Until he takes some actual positive action, that is the only positive that I see.
